About Fostering

Fostering is a rewarding experience and a vital step in helping our dogs on their journey to a forever home. When you foster with Pei & Pals, you’re never on your own, our dedicated volunteer team supports you every step of the way.

We encourage you to read our Frequently Asked Questions below and hear from our foster carers about their experiences. We look forward to welcoming you into the Pei & Pals family.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’d like to foster but I’m not sure what to do.

That’s okay, you’re fully supported. Our Pei & Pals team guides you through the entire fostering journey, including vet care and next steps.

Will I be on my own once the dog arrives?

No. You’ll be assigned a dedicated liaison for support, advice and vet information. You’ll also have access to our carers Facebook group and helpful fact sheets on behaviour, training and diet.

Do I need to pay for food, medication and supplies?

Many carers choose to provide these, just like their own pets. If that’s not possible, we can assist with food, toys and medications through our donation points.

What if I’m busy for adoption meets or photos?

Most carers work and foster. Adoption meets are arranged at mutually convenient times, often on weekends. Meetings can be held at local parks if preferred.

Why do you use a PPAR photographer?

Great photos help dogs get adopted faster. Professional photos attract more enquiries, and our volunteer photographers generously donate their time to help our dogs find homes.

What if I want to keep my foster dog?

If you wish to adopt, apply quickly, as we must process adoption applications in the order they’re received.

What if my foster dog has behavioural issues?

This is common, especially early on. Dogs may be scared or stressed at first. Our team provides guidance, training support and ongoing advice, and most dogs settle in quickly with time and patience.

What if I need to stop fostering?

If a dog must be relocated, we’ll work to find a new carer, but same-day moves are rarely possible except in urgent situations.

Why is there an adoption fee?

Adoption fees help cover vet checks, vaccinations, microchipping, desexing, parasite treatments, medical care and transport from rural pounds.

I’m worried I won’t be able to say goodbye.

Fostering can be emotional, but every tear is worth the life you save. Your foster dog is alive because you said yes, and your love prepares them for the future they deserve.
